Listening thread

Listening to music contributes to my sense of well being. I suppose that’s true for many people. I especially enjoy many genres of pop music. Folk, rock, country, emo, metal, funk, and R&B are among my favorites styles. Also,’singer/songwriter/musicians are among my favorite artists. The sincerity, rawness, or personal nature of their lyrics and performances are appealing. For me those characteristics can transcend limitations in vocal or playing ability that an artist may have, although I certainly am a fan of many bands, beautiful voices, and skillful instrumentation too.

I like both classic artists and new artists. As you probably have experienced, the streaming apps like Spotify and Apple Music are terrific ways to find new artists and their tunes. Their catalogs are vast and current. They complement my longstanding approaches to discovering new music that include listening to college radio stations, reading publications like Pitchfork, Paste, and Rolling Stone, and checking out podcasts like New Music Friday.

In this thread, I plan to periodically make notes on what I’m listening to currently. From time to time, I will share thoughts on the music. I view this thread as a way to enrich my enjoyment of music. It’s also an opportunity to get more in touch with myself and possibly to connect more deeply with others. And if anyone follows this thread, maybe they will find more music that they enjoy. Could be a win-win.
