Solidly country music from the Plains

Plains, the duo of Katie Crutchfield and Jess Williamson, deliver straight ahead country and western tracks that evoke memories of popular main stream acts and songs of the 1970s. Although separate solo artists for the most part heretofore, their voices consistently blend in harmony and counterpoint with the pedal steel guitar. Their vocal style and lyrics convey the sincerity and savvy of the best country music. Standout songs for me are Problem With It, Easy, Line of Sight, and Last 2 on Earth. I’ve been listening to Ms. Crutchfield’s releases since her 2012 album American Weekend, and enjoyed each one of them; definitely adding I Walked With You A Ways to the play list. If you enjoy traditional country, indie-folk or Ms. Crutchfield’s alter ego Waxahatchee, you might enjoy this release too.

  1. Crazy. I saw Jess Williamson play live in Dallas and then in Paris with her old band. Even bought a record. They disbanded during COVID but great to see that she found a new gig and that her following has grown!
